Jayne Geist, Vaca Pena English teacherWe proudly announce that Jayne Geist is our 2023-2024 Teacher of the Year at Vaca Peña Middle School.

Jayne is in her 5th year of teaching 7th-grade English and 8th-grade Leadership at Vaca Peña.

Jayne began her teaching career at Vaca Peña in January 2020 as a long-term substitute for a teacher on extended leave. She was fresh out of the University of Nevada, Reno credential program, eager to bring her knowledge of supporting all learners in the classroom, taking on every challenge presented, all while maintaining a focus on developing each student's potential.

Jayne quickly fell in step with the rest of the English department, and you would have thought she was a seasoned veteran teacher. When an opening at Vaca Peña was presented for the following school year, we quickly scooped her up. We knew she would be an awesome addition to the Vaca Peña Community.

Walking into Jayne's classroom, you feel an overwhelming sense of calm even when students are deep in essay writing. Her lessons are developed to meet individual needs and skill sets so that standards are mastered.

Her colleagues describe her impact on the students as "the leader of leaders!" "A model teacher who has a large positive impact on our school and community," as "someone who does it all." "A mentor" and someone who "creates a classroom environment that nurtures not just academic achievement but also emotional intelligence and leadership skills."

Her remarkable dedication to English and Leadership education has left a permanent mark on her students.
